Vietnam's textile and garment industry strives to overcome difficulties

Article: Dr. Tran Van, Member of National Assembly XII, XIII

Since the beginning of 2020, the whole world has witnessed the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic - a global pandemic of the largest and deadliest type in a modern world with the level of scientific and technical development. and technology is already at a pretty high level. The pandemic has shaken the world, threatened people's lives, disrupted the global economy.

The global economy has dropped sharply in 2020, and 2021 is not much better. Countries are struggling to cope with the epidemic, constantly offering solutions and support packages to stabilize their economies.

According to the International Labor Organization (ILO), the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on Asia's textile manufacturers is unprecedented. A series of Asian textile enterprises are struggling because of the epidemic. Both have to suffer the limitations of social distancing and border closure in their own countries, while also suffering from the impact of declining international aggregate demand for textile products. This is especially acute in countries where the textile and garment industry accounts for a large share of the economy or exports.

The textile industry of our country is no exception. According to the General Statistics Office, the textile and garment industry is one of the industries hardest hit by the pandemic. The supply chain of input materials is interrupted, the price of supplies and raw materials increases, import markets are closed due to blockade or social distancing to prevent epidemics, and the demand for products decreases. difficulties faced by the industry this year. The phenomenon of disruption in logistics, a serious lack of empty containers, unstable ship schedules, etc. has increased transportation costs many times over.

However, in "the difficulty emerges wisdom". Vietnamese textile and garment enterprises have sought to seize opportunities in challenges, quickly transforming their product structure into products that are able to adapt to the new situation. I still remember during the peak of anti-epidemic in the beginning of the second quarter of last year, the antibacterial, washable and reusable cloth mask of Vietnam Textile and Garment Group 30 times, using all domestic materials, meeting the strict strict requirements of the Ministry of Health, distributed more than the time of subsidy stamps . The long line of people at Vinatex Fashion Centers to wait for their turn to buy a few standard cloth masks shows that this is a solution trusted by the community at a reasonable price.

The epidemic is still raging and it is unknown when it will end, when vaccines are still very scarce and many new strains, new variants of Covid-19 spread faster and more difficult to cure appear. Forecasts on the world economic outlook in 2021 still have to be regularly updated according to the evolution of the epidemic situation. According to Global Economic Prospects in January 2021 of the World Bank, the world economy in 2021 will grow by 4% if the production and vaccination of vaccines are carried out on a large scale. But the report also emphasized that even if there is a return to growth, the epidemic will still have serious consequences such as a decrease in economic activity dynamics and a decline in people's welfare.

For economic recovery, countries need to maintain the cycle of reinvestment in production and expand investment and consumption stimulus packages, and invest in technical infrastructure from the already limited state budget. narrow due to the sharp decline in budget revenue. The World Bank's January forecast for this year's economic growth in the US and EU are both 0.5-0.9 percentage points lower than the forecast of June 2020 respectively, showing that the overall situation is still intact. still very difficult. The outbreaks of disease in India and neighboring countries and even in Vietnam this April-May show how dangerous it is to prolong the epidemic and repeat waves of community transmission on a large scale. new wide.

Although the export turnover of our country's textile and garment industry has decreased, the decrease is still much lower than that of other countries. In the context that the world's total demand for textiles and garments has decreased by 25% due to the impact of the pandemic, this can be considered a great effort of the industry. In the coming time, textile and garment enterprises need to have a more flexible approach, adapt to the changes of the market during and after the epidemic, actively change their production and business methods, continue to innovate their technology, and continue to innovate. technology, digital transformation is appropriate to take advantage of the opportunities brought by new-generation free trade agreements.

Vietnam's textile and garment enterprises have always been at the forefront of globalization and international economic integration, are familiar with the fierce competitive environment in the international market, so it is entirely possible to see ahead of time. own problems to be creative, adapt to market changes, ensure sustainable development, stabilize jobs and the lives of millions of workers as well as maintain the national prestige of the textile industry. May Vietnam.
