Textile industry with many challenges from the epidemic

(HNM) - Thanks to the experience of adapting to the epidemic situation, the production and business activities of the textile and garment industry in the first 6 months of 2021 have many positive signs. However, the context of the complicated development of the Covid-19 epidemic is creating a significant challenge for the textile industry, first of all the risk of labor shortage, slow delivery of goods...

Chairman of the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association Vu Duc Giang said that most businesses have received orders until the third quarter and the end of 2021. This recovery is thanks to the policy of promoting trade, seeking market of the Government, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and together with the efforts of the business community in the textile industry.

According to General Director of Garment 10 Corporation - Than Duc Viet Joint Stock Company, in order to promptly pay orders to partners, many textile and garment enterprises are running at full capacity. Currently, May 10 is increasing production capacity and restructuring groups and working shifts to increase labor productivity... Along with taking care of production and business, anti-epidemic measures are strictly implemented. , drastically. The Corporation requires employees to strictly comply with the "5K" regulation when working as well as at break...

The report from the Ministry of Industry and Trade has also confirmed this issue more clearly. Accordingly, in the first 6 months of 2021, the production index of the textile industry increased by 8.1% over the same period in 2020; the apparel manufacturing industry increased by 9.1%; Leather and related products industry increased by 12%. Export turnover of textiles and garments is estimated at 12.2 billion USD, up 15%; export turnover of fibers and textile yarns of all kinds increased by 60.1%; export turnover of curtains and other technical fabrics increased by 66.2%. The reason for this recovery is because the demand for purchasing consumer goods in the main export markets of the US, the European Union (EU), Japan... has increased markedly. Currently, textile enterprises are having stable orders. Some businesses have had enough applications until the end of this year. Therefore, the goal of reaching 40 billion USD in export turnover of the textile and garment industry in 2021 is completely positive.

However, the way ahead, the textile industry is facing many challenges from the complicated developments of the epidemic. As an example of this, Mr. Vu Duc Giang said that at least 45 textile and garment enterprises have had to suspend production since the Covid-19 epidemic broke out in May 2021. Factories were forced to stop operating under the pressure of both "teaming" production costs, having to take care of the source of wages to pay workers, and then struggling to compensate customers or have to change more expensive transportation methods to timely delivery. Just 14-21 days of production shutdown will directly affect the production plan for the whole year of 2021… This is a difficult time for the textile industry to face when Vietnam copes with an additional wave of Covid-19 outbreaks. Again.

According to Mr. Vu Duc Giang: “This is really a big concern, profoundly affecting the existence of businesses and jobs, the lives of workers, especially those that use a lot of labor. Vietnam's textile and garment industry is now also an industry with a large labor force with nearly 3 million people, contributing to ensuring social security and making an important contribution to export turnover.

To overcome this difficult period, the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association has proposed to the State to support access to vaccines to inject for workers in the industry. In addition, the Association also recommends policies to create conditions for factories in this industry to operate normally in order to fulfill orders for partners in the near future.

In the immediate future, in order to stabilize production, textile and garment enterprises will continue to do their best in the prevention and control of the Covid-19 epidemic. With May 10, the Corporation's Steering Committee for Disease Prevention and Control has developed a "scenario" to respond to the epidemic flexibly and effectively, ensuring the health and safety of employees.

Along with that, according to Deputy General Director of Vietnam National Textile and Garment Group (Vinatex) Cao Huu Hieu, propaganda work is also done regularly by businesses, from production workshops to departments. Together with enterprises in the textile and garment industry, Vinatex will continue to maintain and promote its autonomy, flexibility in direction and production to overcome this epidemic wave...
