Production line at An Phuoc hemp yarn factory, Cam Tu commune, Cam Thuy district, Thanh Hoa province.
In the northern provinces, hemp is mainly grown in localities such as Bac Kan, Thanh Hoa, Hanoi, Son La, Phu Tho, Nghe An... with an area of about 1,600 to 2,000 ha. In which, Thanh Hoa province, so far, has formed a green hemp material area with an area of 703ha. According to the statistics of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Thanh Hoa province, for the original green hemp (from the second year) with a cost of more than 71 million VND/ha, the dry bark yield is from 3,000 to 3,500 kg of hemp. /ha, the average price is 45,000 VND/kg, people earn from 132 to 164.5 million VND/ha, the profit is from 64 to 93 million VND/ha.
Particularly where the productivity is 1,000kg or more, the profit is more than 100 million VND/ha/year. There are families in Cam Thuy, Thach Thanh and Hoang Hoa districts that harvest 5 times a year, the output is from 4,000 to 5,000 kg/ha, the profit is from 135 to 150 million VND/ha/year. Ms. Pham Thi Thanh, Cam Tu commune, Cam Thuy district confided: “Initially, my family grew green hemp and sold raw materials, so the efficiency was not high. After the agricultural extension staff and enterprises provided technical guidance, the income from this species was higher. Over the past three years, my family has gradually expanded the area of hemp to more than 9 hectares, of which the area of hemp can be harvested for three generations per year.
Compared with some northern localities, the green thorn tree appeared in Hoa Binh later, but because it was planted scientifically, with the involvement of the authorities and specialized agencies, this plant gradually promoted its value. treat. Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hoa Binh province Vuong Dac Hung said that up to now, farmers in the province have planted 160ha of green thorns in Lac Son, Da Bac and Hoa Binh city districts.
Currently, there are three cooperatives in the area that are partners of An Phuoc Agriculture Joint Stock Company in developing raw material areas; Sign contracts with households on the supply of materials, fertilizers, technical guidance on planting, harvesting, and consumption of hemp bark at the agreed price. On average, a year, since planting, green hemp produces 4 generations, the output is 2.6 to 2.8 tons, the revenue is 100 to 110 million VND/ha. For hemp plants grown on flat land with yield from 3.3 to 3.5 tons, income from 130 to 140 million VND/ha. Growing green hemp yields 2.5 to 4 times higher than traditional crops such as corn, cassava, and sugarcane.
Also according to the agricultural sector of Thanh Hoa province, the outstanding advantage in the production of green hemp is the higher economic efficiency compared to some other crops on the same land from 20 to 60 million VND/ha/ five. This plant is planted once but harvested for many years, is easy to grow, has few pests and diseases, is suitable on many different lands; Closely linked between cultivation, purchasing, processing and consumption, gradually forming production in a closed value chain, contributing to creating jobs and raising incomes for people.
Thanh Hoa province has issued mechanisms and policies to develop hemp with the following contents: support 10 million VND/ha when converting inefficient perennial crops to hemp, support 10 million VND/ha to buy green hemp seeds for new planting materials; financial support to buy hemp stripping machine at the rate of 5 million VND/machine for organizations or households with one hectare or more of raw material. Some localities have issued support mechanisms to encourage the development of cooperative members to grow new hemp plants and have product off-take contracts...
Currently, there are 173 recognized embroidery and weaving craft villages in the country. Materials for embroidery and weaving include silk, cotton, flax... and recently hemp (from the green hemp plant). This is an opportunity to develop the green hemp material area, which not only ensures raw materials for the textile industry but also helps people eliminate hunger, reduce poverty and get rich. However, according to the Department of Economic Cooperation and Rural Development (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), in order to develop green hemp material areas, firstly, localities need to plan concentrated planting areas associated with yarn processing factories to ensure the supply and quality of raw materials for weaving villages.
Second, strengthen the work of information and communication to the people in order to raise awareness, gradually change the thinking of small farmers, and switch to a modern, sustainable, large-scale commodity agricultural production method associated with agricultural production. with the consumer market are textile companies and traditional weaving villages.
Third, build a chain of links between producers, yarn processing units from green hemp, brocade weaving villages and units that consume handicraft products made from green hemp. Fourth, coordinate with suppliers of green hemp seeds to organize, train, train and transfer scientific and technical advances to growers in order to improve productivity and product quality in line with requirements. using raw materials in traditional weaving villages.
Recently, at a workshop on developing production of hemp as a raw material for fiber processing to serve the textile industry in some northern provinces organized by the National Center for Agricultural Extension, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam said that green thorns are economically viable crops. Ministries, sectors and localities need to study and have appropriate development policies to make hemp a key crop, thereby helping farmers, especially in the northern mountainous areas, to enrich themselves with this plant. . Localities need to put scientific and technical progress into production, in which attention is paid to farming processes, varieties, mechanization, and processing technology.
